Are you an online coach or consultant that is looking to market your business like a huge brand but not a huge business?
Well stay tuned.
In this post, I will share with you how to market your online business without a budget. Including the TOP 5 growth tactics for online coaches and consultants.
Big brands spend an enormous amount of money on advertising and marketing, but as a solo entrepreneur or small business owner you don’t have to do the same.
I used to sell, create and manage huge marketing campaigns for three broadcast television networks. We’re talking thousands of dollars of advertising per month just to get your message heard.
Naturally my clients were sharing with me their success online with social marketing.
This was marketing that was free, and just took a bit of time each week to nurture.
These free tactics that I am going to share with you today, definitely evens the playfield.
Whether you have been in business a long time or you are just starting out.
You can market your business just as effectively on a shoestring budget by utilizing some basic free or low-cost marketing tactics. If you engage with your audience effectively and provide high-value content, you can achieve all your business goals just like the big companies do.
Stick around for five ways you can do your own marketing online with little or no cost.
The first and most obvious and free tactic to market your business is to:
- Engage on Social Media
Social media is a great way to interact with your audience and spread awareness of your brand.
You can use it to
communicate directly with your followers,
build a community of loyal followers,
As well as research your audience members, and current trends.
Start by finding out which social media platforms your audience uses.
The major ones now are Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram.
LinkedIn is a social media platform specifically geared towards business-to-business and professionals.
Of course, there are always new and up and coming social media platforms to tryout. Weather it’s Tiktok or Clubhouse.
Especially if you are just starting out, don’t feel like you need to jump on every trend and be everywhere at once. But feel free to play around and see if you can get down with the features and audience.
If you’re not sure which platforms your audience uses, ask them directly, or run a survey utilizing Survery Monkey or a simple poll. , Or you could also sign up to each platform and look for your audience there.
It’s always wise to go where you are most comfortable because most of the major platform will have an audience regardless of you niche
Just make sure to stick to one or two platforms to dominate in the beginning.
I really enjoy Youtube for search capability and Facebook for diverse content capability.
Let me know in the comments, which is your favorite social media site to use?
Social media sites are free to use. All it takes is an investment of a little bit of your time daily posting content and managing your account.
#2. Produce Helpful Videos
People watch videos on YouTube to learn new things and find solutions to the problems they’re facing.
YouTube is one of the world’s most popular websites and its user base spans every demographic.
Of course, I don’t have to tell you this, you’re probably watching this video on Youtube right now.
For YouTube, you can create short videos that offer help on various topics. Take a simple tip and show your viewers how to do it. Make a video where you answer a commonly asked question or discuss trending topics in your industry.
The good news is, you do not even have to show your face on video.
Slides with voice over more than does the trick, especially when you are teaching valuable information.
You can use free video production and editing software, and it’s free to post on YouTube.
3. Build an Email List
Email is a highly personal way to interact with your audience.
People subscribe to email lists to receive useful content, the latest news, and exclusive promotions straight into their inbox.
If you are serious about growing a successful business, you’ve got to have an email list of subscribers.
If social media disappeared tomorrow, you would want a way to connect with the people who are interested in what you do.
The best way to get people to sign up to your list is to offer a lead magnet.
A lead magnet is usually an information product that you offer for free; all the recipient needs to do is enter their name and email address.
In exchange, they benefit from your helpful email newsletter.
To get started with email marketing, sign up with an email autoresponder service. Some of these are free, while others can get costly – research the different options to find out what’s right for you. Always start with a free service or a free trial to test out the software and make sure it gives you what you need before investing.

This next strategy works perfect if you already have a base of happy customers. and that would be to
4. To Start a Referral Program
With a referral program, you can offer your customers incentives to tell others about your products and services.
The incentive can be anything of your choice as long as it is valuable to your recipient and that you can leverage without spending a lot of extra time or money.
The incentive could be:
or discounts to people who spread the word.
This is a great way to generate some valuable word-of-mouth marketing.
A referral program multiplies your marketing efforts.
The key is to offer something that’s valuable for your customer but costs little to nothing for you to produce.
Some good ideas include free membership to your site, a deep discount on your products, or an informational product that only takes time to create.
5. Leverage the Internet and Save Costs
You never need to spend a great deal on advertising and marketing as long as you have an arsenal of marketing tactics you can put to use.
Whether it’s producing video, blogging or posting visual content on instagram.
Always focus on providing valuable content that meets your audience’s needs, and you can avoid spending a dime on advertising.
